Amy the Ant - High Manzanilla of the Church of the Stuffed Olive

I've found these book titles online:

The Fate of the Mammoth: Fossils, Myth, and History
Stephen Jay Gould (Foreword), Claudine Cohen, William Rodarmor (Translator)

Mammoth: The Resurrection of an Ice Age Giant
Richard Stone

Does anyone know if they're worth reading?

Hi Amy...

In another thread I've just told Ami there are a couple of possible French sources:

For instance: www.mammuthus.org has a quite nice bibliography section...

If you think any of the books would be of any use I'm quite willing to try and hunt them down over here.

In the same way, if you run across any French source material on the web that you'd like translating, just give me a shout.

www.mammuthus.org looks good, although I must polish up my French. One day I may very well like your much appreciated offer to help with translation.

smiley - ok I've e-mailed the French Newspaper 'Ouest France' to see if I can get hold of a copy of the article mentionned in that bibliography (Chasseurs de mammouths en Bretagne - Mammoth hunters in Brittany)

If they let me have a copy (don't hold your breath - this is france we're talking about, they're not exactly consumer friendly over here) I'll knock together a rough and ready translation of it for you

smiley - cheers

Amy the Ant - High Manzanilla of the Church of the Stuffed Olive

I found some more titles:

The Great Ice Age: Climate Change and Life ~ R.C.L. Wilson (Editor), et al

Quaternary Environments; Paperback ~ Martin Williams, et al

Reconstructing Quaternary Environments
John Lowe, Mike Walker

While in town today I had a look at

Wild New World: Recreating Ice-Age North America
D. Bruce Means (Foreword), Miles Barton, Nigel Bean, Stephen Dunleavy, Ian Gray, Adam White

The illustrations are dreadful. I can draw much better mammoths than they can.

Some of their pictures are screen shots from their animated sequences - which they made using stuffed toy mammoths apparently. I didn't see the series and, having seen the book, I'm quite relieved about that. I assume the series was made with trans-atlantic sales in mind.
