Total Lunar eclipse
abbi normal "Putting on the Ritz" with Dr Frankenstein Started conversation Aug 30, 2007
I had no idea how beautiful one could be!
I am sure I have seen one before , or near total.
Never one so spectacular.
It was a red ball.
For a short while a bright light of a plate was beneath the massive red apple vision. As if Mars was exremely close.
A pefectly clear sky opened up a few monutes before and the 2 hour show was well worth getting up for. I am glad I did.
Next September there is one.
I do not know if the redish orange color is always present to some degree.

abbi. we in Australia had a view of the eclipse. and the night skies were clear throughout. I kept on ducking outside from work to take a look but I forgot to bring my camera in to take some shots....

I saw the last total eclipse back in 2001 (I think) through the back of an ambulance door, the smoke glass in them is just perfect for viewing them

The orange colour is always there during a Lunar eclipse... The reason for this is that the light from the sun passes the earth in a straight line, outwards into space, except for the red spectrum, which "bends" around the earth's circumference, and reaches the moon, therefore giving it an orange appearance.
Enough technical talk though, it's enough to know it is a beautiful sight to behold...

I heard about it last thing or I would have posted it before hand. There was not as much said beforehand or I missed it.
Even the next day the news mostly said go to the internet! I was dissapointed they did not show it more after the fact either. I missed the ending too.
Thanks for the explanation Stephen!
I will check out the link since I missed the last 45 minutes I do not know how it ended
This was the clearest I have ever seen one.
I'll be looking to red red next time
September 2008 is the next one I think.
