I took it as meaning that parents can be way too overprotective, which some are. So I was just reminding myself that I don't want to be a mother hen, because that's not that great for anyone... (And can be quite annoying to the wife when the mother fusses about the adult son diving off a perfectly safe rock, that the wife was jumping from too! Only not as high up, because I'm scared of heights...)

Purposely harming a child IS abuse
Allowing a child to experience consequence as a result of a chosen action that has already been explained is not.
Like when my 12 year old has my 9 year old on the ground twisting his arm. I do not allow it to continue when I see it. But, if my 9 year old exacts revenge for the torment his older brother dishes out when my eyes are not on them, I have to explain to my 12 year old that if he hurts someone they may hit back.

Exactly,K;Sheera,the soon-to-be 5 yr old(who`s adopted me)whomps on her brother,7-Brandon.Oh,he deserves it-he delites in torturing his sisters,w/things he has & they don`t.He`s a real talker-but Sheera,fed up w/the talk,will just haul off & wallop him,when she`s had it up to here w/him(& his mouth).It`s so hard to keep a level playing field w/kids of differing ages(soon-to-be:3,5 & now 7).I just always remember what my mom told me:Girls mature faster,live longer,& have higher IQ`s than boys(in terms of population).So Meranna is ~ = to Brandon/maturity-wise!

I remember when the child was four or so, she was a scrappy thing.
Sometimes, just for fun, when we were at the department store and I saw some slightly older girl with her mother, only at a slight remove, I would point her out to the child and say,"Kill!"
She would delightedly barrel toward the older girl, who would take one look and dive for mummie's legs.
The mom would turn to see what was up and see the child and invariably comment about how cute she was while her own child was looking up at her, thinking,"Got you fooled, don't she?!"

THAT`S IT!!! Exactly~ both Sherra & her <er sis Meranna,will grow to be 2 leggy-slender ash-blonds-the likes of Paris & Nicky Hilton (just saw them on biography)...& they`ll be beach-crazy.Already,it`s started-Sheera always wants to go to the beach!
