Wheel Spin....

On mi new iMac there is this wheel right? A colour wheel kinda t'ing. And reccetly it's been doing an awful lot of spinning. Ever since I installed the lasted version of democracy player, Not a single application will run withouit an inordinate period of wheel spinning before it even gets close to starting and even then after while I tend to have to force quit. It's doing my head in. I'm not sure if I've allowed a bug of some kind onto my mac or if it's bug with democracy player or some other bit of software. At first it seemed like it was this extension I got for DeerPark but now it's the entirity of the machine on a go slow or not at all. Even finder takes minutes to open.
Even anyone has any ideas, let me know. I'll be back on Monday.

I've had eactly the same problem with my (second-hand) iMac since I've had it. Gothly had a look under the bonnet and said it looks as though, when I open applications, the machine has periods of doing absolutely nothing for a while. No idea how to solve it, but I'd love to know.
Apout the 'force quit' thing: on mine, when it says "application not responding," it's a lie: if I wait a bit longer, it will respond. Go and make yourself a cup of tea or something. Visiting certain websites in faraway countries, however, does cause the browser to effectively crash: i.e. the wheel spins forever, or until I forcibly quit the browser and then reopen it.

A few days rest had seemed to have set it right - then I started trying to play video in the new version of democracy player I *replaced* the the version I first had with, which didn't always run to perfection itself but didn't at least leave my entire machine wheel spinning on every application. I had an intention to buy some extra memory at some point, perhaps I should give consideration to doing that sooner. At the moment there's a 20 second lag between me hitting the key and the text appearing.
On the PC I used to keep Old Versions, wish I'd thought to keep that up.

It hadn't occurred to me to invest in extra memory. It hadn't even occurred to me that iMacs could be taken apart. Sounds like a step well worth taking. Before I got this iMac, I was borrowing one off Philosopher Friend. It looked exactly the same, but had a faster processor, and I tell you, the difference...!

I've got '512 MB DDR SDRAM' I was thinking I'd slip another gig into the other slot. Which doesn't really demand any skill or arcane knowledge on my part... Wether it would actually help if what happening is ... That nothing is happening and it's not so much actually eating up memory but failing to use it, I don't know. I've got the 2GHz in the CPU and And Radeon 9600 for the VRAM I'm not sure there are any upgrades or wether I could do them myself.

I think the CPU can be done in theory and the graphics is burnt in.

Could be wrong...
Sorry streams of meandering thoughts spread out over numbers of posts can be annoying. Especially since I don't *know* what I waffling about.

Gothly's not that experienced with Apples. Perhaps it's putting some activities on hold while it carries out other activities, and alternates them or something.

It's not so bad since the last reistall. I think there must have been a conflict somewhere.
My current irritation is that LimeWire quits immediately whenever I try to open the application.

What were you reinstalling? How? And can I do it on mine?

Democracy player, as mentioned as in the first post about two weeks or so weeks ago, hence the context being unclear.

Oh, right. Ah well.
I'm thinking about upgrading my hamsters to lemmings, anyway.

Perhaps not a wise move. Lemmings are prone to crashing... over cliffs. I'd suggest gerbils, they're leaner speadier little critters.
