Emee, out from under the rock

I cleaned the kitchen yesterday so we could promptly mess it up. Mr. Emee made a pecan pie and I made bread. It was Mr. Emee's first pie and turned out well if you like that kind of thing. I'm not keen on pecans so he took it in to work this afternoon. The bread was overworked. I used a mixer and had no idea what I was doing. The way I learned to make bread didn't involve small kitchen appliances or measuring or even letting the dough rise. Not sure how it all worked out, but it did. Grandma's bread and cinnamon rolls are the best.

The old fashioned way of doing things does seem to produce the best results. At least for those of us who have had the old fashioned stuff so we have a way to compare. Todays kids won't know the difference.

It occurred to me the other day that I probably should be more familiar with a kitchen. Otherwise, my grandkids (should I have any) won't get the 'dinner at Grandma's' experience that I take for granted.

That said, if my grandmother weren't still alive, my kids wouldn't have this either, since my mother cooks even less than I do.

I love to bake though. I haven't ever tried bread. It's been years since I had home-baked bread.

Perhaps my New Years resolution this year should be to learn to cook more (which would be a nice change from my perpetual resolution to lose weight).
