Naughty Daisy! smiley - cross

Brought in the New Year with my fella N. We stood up and danced and smiley - smooch a few times.

We then decided to feed Daisy the Snake. I put her food in as usual and N decided that where I'd put her food wasn't in the right place, so silly N put his hand inside her house to move her food. Silly N!

Daisy struck and bit his right hand. He was very brave. He didn't move until Daisy let go which I have to admit was straight away. N doesn't taste very nice smiley - laugh

So I phoned up NHS Direct and was advised he needed to go to A&E because of possible infection.

On New Years Eve?! Do they know what happens in A&E on New Years Eve?!

So, I thought I'd ring up A&E and get advice from them. Nope. I had to bring him in sooner rather than later. The guy I spoke to was lovely. He said that if we came in now it wasn't too bad, only about an hour wait.

So I rang a taxi firm. It would be at least 20 minutes before a taxi was available. I advised it was sort of an emergency and they said it would be 20 minutes, take it or leave it. I accepted it.

I then went outside to have a ciggie. I remembered that the guy (whom I now know to be called Steve) had come home only a short while before, perhaps there was a chance he hadn't had a drink so I knocked on his door.

YAY!!! He hadn't been drinking!

I explained the situation and he was only too happy to help and run us to A&E which was about a 7 minute drive away. He even offered to wait for us which of course we couldn't accept as we didn't know how long we'd be. We thanked him lots (although we don't know what to buy him as a thank you present as he doesn't drink - answers on a post card please)

We went inside and there was a guy who'd been bitten by a dog. We had a bit of a laugh with him over who's was the most painful. Then it was our turn at reception. Then just as we were about to "register" two female police officers came in with a guy who had somehow hurt his head. I said to one of the police officers that they could go before us as it was quiet and they did have a job to do and wanted to make their New Years Eve a little less stressful. They both wished us a Happy New Year when they left to carry out their duties.

We then got called through and the guy said that he assumed it was me he spoke to on the phone as they don't tend to get snake bites in. I laughed and said it was.

They quickly scrubbed N's wound and gave him some anti biotics. We thanked the doctor and went on our way.

As we were leaving N saw one of his friends who was an ambulance technician. We chatted to him for a few minutes and wished him a Happy New Year then went outside to get a taxi home.

Whilst waiting for a taxi N's friend came outside to sort out his ambulance for his next shout and said that he had spoken to the doctor who treated N and the doctor said what a lovely genuine person N was and that he was happy that he managed to treat someone who wasn't abusive towards him.

We then got our taxi home. All in all 1 hour 20 minutes.

Thank you so much to Steve our neighbour for taking us to the hospital.

Thank you to the A&E staff who treated N on a night where they were getting nothing but trouble.

Thank you to the taxi driver for not charging us New Years Eve rates to bring us home.

Happy New Year guys!!!!

Happy New Year Vicki. It must been very scary for N but I am very happy that everything worked out well. I hope that N's hand will quickly get better.
