Vicki Virago - Proud Mother

Oh my poor head!!!! smiley - headhurts

I handed in my notice today. Nearly cried when I did it too.

Some of you are e-mailing me with advice atm, but I'm still confused as to what to do! smiley - wah

They don't want me to leave (not really surprising considering what I do here), and they're offering me the world to help change my mind.

It seems I'm good at helping others sort out their problems, yet, I'm no good at trying to get my own sorted........typical!

If I change jobs, I (hopefully) will be less stressed.

If I stay here, I could demand changes be made to help me be less stressed.....something my boss is talking to me about today.

Big Boss is coming in later on this afternoon.....hmmm....I wonder if I will be called into his office.

Try to keep a clear head... Listen to what they have to say, if you think the changes they promise to make will help you could agree to stay for a while to see if it has any effect, but not promise to stay as a permenant thing... try not to let your boss make you feel bad, dont so something you dont want to do

I agree, do not make any promises to stay for an extended period. If posssible, ask for any proposed changes to be written down so that you can study it later while deciding. Don't tell them you want it in writing as evidence smiley - winkeye.

Above all, do not feel guilty. You did your job there, and it may be time to move on to something else. You are an adult and can decide for yourself where you want to be or not. Don't let them manipulate you with guilt and derision.

I felt guilty the second I walked into my bosses room to hand over my resignation. He's been a good friend to me in the past, as well as my boss.

When the Big Boss (not really any higher than my immediate boss - he just thinks he is) comes in, my decision may already be made. It all depends on whether they accept my resignation or not.

I've been here such a long time (considering) and I'm "safe" where I am. Is it that I don't like change?

I don't think it's a case of them working the guilt trip, it's a case of me being upset about wanting to leave.

He really is a good boss.

Something out of a management book from the Sixties:
If you like the job but don't like the salary, resign and attach an application for the same job, quoting the salary you do want.
If you're happy with the salary but don't like the job description/workplan, resign and re-apply for a position and attach the job description/workplan + salary package you do want.

By doing so you indicate you're so serious about your needs/demands that you are prepared to leave. It saves them the negotiate-beg-coerce-guilt trip thing and if they didn't really want you anyway, they didn't have to fire you.

It's far cheaper for them to keep you on than to re-train someone else, you don't take the clients away from them and you don't badmouth the company outside.
