Can this problem with other DNA registrations be sorted out?

I'm finding it hard to understand how people coming from other DNA sites can fit in here. There seems to be an increasing number of people who are having problems when they arrive because they don't have full functionality. I got a bit of an explanation in an ACE's thread about this but still don't understand the technical and functional limits or issues.

Would it be possible for an A page to be written explaining this?

The latest example is this researcher: U1848948

I can't start a new convo on her PS, despite others having done so. I keep getting (as in groundhog day) the greetings unkown hiker message asking me to login. I can't tell if this is a temporary glitch or if it's because she is from another site (I gather some people from other sites can't have convos on their PS).

Emily says she can't post in her journal. I've asked a Guru to assist, but it would be good for the site for this issue to be better understood across the board.

This seems like yet another example of h2g2 losing some of it's gloss in that it's just frustrating and makes the site a less pleasant place to be. This is particularly annoying when it affects convos in PR or the WW (as has been the case today).

"There are two kinds of activities on the dna cluster. One group of sites are community based, they are encouraged to get to know eachother. And the other group is the message boards, where contributors are only supposed to talk on a limited set of forums about a limited set of topics.

The limitations are only for the messageboards, those are mainly based on radio and television programs. The local Hosts are also part of the production team for these programs and have very limited time and resources to support their members.

Try to visit members with an unknown registration on Collective, below their introduction you will see their Registration site smiley - smiley < <./>/dna/collective/U1848948</.> >.

Hmm, I happen to be Signed In to all the boards, so I can post to a Personal Space on < <./>/dna/mbreligion/</.> > as well smiley - cheers. "

Thanks Traveller smiley - smiley

So, if someone registers on a MB rather than a community, then their h2g2 PS will:

(a) not have journals

(b) not be able to have new conversations started on it by h2g2 researchers.

(c) therefore not be able to be ACED.

Any other limits?

Wouldn't it makes sense for the ACEs to be signed in on a MB so they can welcome people new to h2g2 especially where they are in PR, WW, or having problems generally on h2g2?

"ACEs should not welcome members of the other sites as Researchers for HooToo. Acing all members who only just visited HooToo would be concidered spamming.
If you read my posting < F2362687?thread=3138019 > closely I do try to keep the welcome limited. I also try to avoid smilies and take special care of the named entries.

You will be able to leave a message to 'chaiyah' if you sign in to mbreligion first. smiley - cheers"

I wasn't really meaning all MB people who visit. I was meaning the ones who get involved in h2g2 in various ways and then either they or h2g2 researchers (or both smiley - winkeye) get confused about the limited functionality.

"I did the dance as a member of 360 once. Posting on ask, claiming nobody had ACEd me smiley - erm. A little nasty I admit but still have not had a solid solution to explain the site boundaries, how to see the Registration site of an account and the differences between the Registrations.

The Collective Member Page does give the right information smiley - winkeye. "

That's bloody useful to know about collective smiley - ok

This is all just part of my growing frustration with h2g2's ongoing loss of functionality (at least on the community side). The fact that one has to chase around to get explanations to try and understand what is going on makes it worse.

Thanks for your help, TiT.

The other thing though, is that you shouldn't really be Aceing non-h2g2 members anyway. It's nice to be able to do so, but as Messageboard members don't have Personal Spaces (they just have an empty frame if viewed in the h2g2 skin, but there's no functionality attached to it at their end) you physically can't Ace them.
