Question on sexual content
Elentari Started conversation Nov 7, 2005
I wrote an essay for uni on Sodomy and Homosexuality in the middle ages, and I can make it suitable for h2g2 (and hopefully the EG) fairly easily, so I'd like to put it up. However, I'm not sure if it would be suitable, given that this is a family site. It's not explicit, but it does refer once to anal intercourse. The rest of the time it uses generic terms like "homosexual acts".
I'd appreciate guidance on whether this is acceptable.
(I posted this on House Rules too, but only Mort saw it, so I posted it here too!)

Have a read of C31 That should give you a good idea if your EG is too strong

That sounds like a fascinating subject, Elentari - one that's been largely overlooked in my history education. I look forward to reading your entry.

Assuming it's ok. I think it probably will be, having looked at the entries Lil pointed out, but I'd like an Italic to tell me first.
I'm a bit concerned actually, my brother pointed out that examiners and people may look online for essays and so on, and think I stole the information (from myself, in effect). It shouldn't matter with this one, since this topic isn't assessed, but I think in future, I'll have to hold off putting assessed work up on h2g2 until it's already been graded.

I can't see that the entry itself would be unsuitable for the guide, provided it's done with a direct factual/scientific/historical angle on it. However, I can't say for certain that it'd be fine until we saw the article itself.
We've got no worries and concerns about using proper terms to describe sexual acts, so write the entry as you see fit and we'll examine it and make any necessary alterations as and when it's appropriate.
Having said that, I think something on Medieval Attitudes to Homosexuality would be absolutely fascinating and definitely a worthwhile contribution to the Guide.
And yes, I think for your own sake, you're definitely better leaving any work that might be assessed OFF h2g2 until after you've got your grades!

I think that's a good idea - the temptation to alter your own work to the Edited version and then submit that for your course must be hard to resist. Not that I'm saying that you would, but there have been suspicions in the past that Researchers have tried to hurry their entry through the editorial process for just that reason.

I didn't atually think of that, I was just worried that the examiners would see it and think I'd copied it. Good point though.
Paully, thanks for the guidance. Would you like me to post a link here once it's done so you or another ed can see it before I put in in PR and thus in wider circulation?

Still a work in progress, but I don't envisage making many changes at all unless you think something is unsuitable.

As far as sexual content is concerned, I say go ahead and put it in PR!
I think you might consider breaking up your paragraphs a bit, though. They seem a tad long in comparison to the standard.

Yeah, I broke it up a bit and put some more links in. May have to check and see if I can find any suitable external links.

Hello, Paully? When you get some time (after the weekend, obviously) could you let me know if it'll be ok?
