Finding peer review threads

Suppose I've found an article which has been recommended. Is there a simple way of going and finding the associated peer review thread? Searching the Forums for the article number doesn't always seem to work (due to problems with the search engine perhaps?) and trawling through the huge list of articles on the peer review page is (a) tedious and (b) error prone: what if the article in question moves from down the bottom of the list to the top of the list whilst I'm looking for it because someone posted a message to it whilst I'm looking through the lists?

Is there some button I've failed to spot that links from a recommended page to the relevant thread? (I'm in classic goo by the way, in case that makes a difference.)

Entries that were marked as submitted, before we changed to the Peer Review system are now listed as recommended entries. Not all recommended entries will therefore be listed on the Peer Review page.

This is a good point though, I've asked the team to post a link to the relevant Peer Reivew thread, for each of the entries on the 'What's coming up' page.

I hope this helps...

Mind you Peta I think there does have to be some better way of actually accessing the peer review threads from the actual article. Or some better way than going through all the threads to find the one you need to post to to make your comment.

Or just to see if the one you want to comment on has already be commented on, so as not to clutter the peer review page with duplicate threads which I see has already happened.

It is the early days of the peer review system but some better way of categorising or sorting will need to be thought of before it goes any further and peer review articles are lost in cyberspace.

Can I make a suggestion? Put the Peer Review threads on the *entries* - with some standard name like "peer review", and then people can post in the peer review forum with a link to both the article, and the peer review thread. EG, in the peer review forum :- A123456 - Storming h2g2 Towers -------------------------------------------- http://www.h2g2.com/A123456 http://www.h2g2.com/F2653123?thread=2539 Please Review this, blah, blah, blah... And in the forum for A123456 :- Peer Review ----------------- Please Review this, blah, blah, blah It would be good to have a button on the "edit page" screen which automatically posted both of these messages, of course... :-)

I think the problem is that there are (at least) two places in which comments on articles are given.

For one, the peer review page (and there could be multiple entries in this forum when different people recommend the same article) and on the other hand the article itself. After it is shown on 'the entries that we're currently putting the finishing touches to' (http://www.h2g2.com/ComingUp), the references to the peer rewiew conversation entries are inaccessible because you couldn't find it in the oh-so-many conversations on the peer review page. So, from now on further comments are placed in article itself, while at the same time the peer review conversation is still accessible. Pretty much the same again when an entry gets approved and becomes an edited entry, but worse this time because edited entries have a different entry number than the original one. A substantial part of the communities' reaction on an article is therefore lost, and it's too good for that.

My opinion - a link to the peer review forum doesn't really help because there are sometimes more than one conversations, as I said above. I suggest that comments should only be made in the article itself and that the peer review page is solely used for recommending an article. It should be thought on how to get the peer review forum smaller, for finding a specific posting is really difficult these days.

Just my thoughts.

What would you think if I
a) included a link in my entry to the relevant peer review thread?
b) took slightly more direct action in my entry and put in a form so you could post a comment to the relevant peer review thread without having to load the page... ?

Hi Joanna,

placing a link to the peer rewiew thread would certainly be helpful to avoid duplicates for instance and to have easy access to it; it would be even a lot more helpful if this link could be automatically inserted by a button labelled 'submit to peer review' or the like, as proposed by IanG.

To your other point, I don't really know what you mean with 'take more direct action'. To be specific, how could you get this with the peer review scheme as it is today?

However, what I wanted to say is that it isn't really important where the comments are stored when it is guaranteed that there is only one place for them and that they are easily accessible. An automated procedure for this - provided by the Towers as the DIY method with programming in GuideML would be too complicated for most users - would indeed be the means of choice if not pure luxury. smiley - smiley

Well, besides searching for the article number in the Forums search, which works for older entries, you could also look for the pr thread on the Researcher's home space. Or you could post to the researcher's space asking for a link to the PR entry if you still can't find it.
