Many thanks; I know he will. And to quote one of Slatkin's own terrible Last Night jokes "I'm sure Sir Henry would"!

I'm not sure anybody will read this far, as my entries tend to be rather long. I just re-ran my recording of the 2003 Last Night and found that the Welsh Prom in the Park was actually in Singleton Park in Swansea, not Cardiff as I misremembered it. The other locations that year were Hyde Park in London, and the Glasgow Science Centre, Pacific Quay. Belfast didn't appear, but I seem to recall there was one there last year (2004).

Browsing around connected web sites, I also discovered some, to me, fascinating bits about that other Prom standard - 'Jerusalem'. I had no idea that the orchestration of Parry's music used in the Proms was by Sir Edward Elgar. Nor did I realize that Parry had set Blake's words to music for a specific occasion - a rally of the “Fight for the Right” movement in Queen’s Hall.

It became more generally known as “Jerusalem” when Parry conducted it in 1918 at a concert to mark the final stage in the Votes for Women Campaign, after which it was adopted by the National Federation of Women’s Institutes (and is still sung at meetings of WI Groups all over Britain).

For me this gives it a whole different aura. I've always loved it anyway, but this links it with the 'La Marseillaise' and other great songs of struggle.

Gnomon - time to move on

That's interesting stuff, Commatoes, but since it does not relate to a correction, you'd be better to attach it to the Proms entry as a conversation. People reading about the Proms entry will then see it and read it.

There is only one thing worse than being Gosho, and that is not being Gosho

"I am constantly dismayed by the amount of misinformation I read on web pages."

I hope that as a new Researcher commatoes, you have come to understand that unlike many other web pages, any misinformation in edited entries at this website can easily be put right. Anything wrong in unedited entries is up to the Researcher who created that entry.

And perhaps you'll consider writing some entries of your own for submission to PeerReview, thereby increasing the quality of The Guide.

Thanks for the advice Gnomon, I'll be happy to add a piece to the Proms site when I find out how to. I only found this site (h2g2) last night when I posted my first note, so I obviously need a lot more experience.

And for Gosho, I'll be looking at Peer Review, when I find out how it works as well.

Sorry about the absence of Smileys but I haven't found out how to include them yet either.

There certainly is a lot to learn about this website, but plenty of us think it's worthwhile, and hope that people like yourself who care and who have high standards take the time to stick around and find out what it's all about.

As for smileys... A155909 (aka <./>Smileys</.&gtsmiley - winkeyesmiley - ok
