Problems updating (or creating) Articles on an Imac and Safari web browser.

Recently I have begun to experience what I presume are time out errors while accesing h2g2 on my imac.

If I choose to either preview of update and entry, the page starts but never finishes loading, ultimately on the two or three times this keeps happening with a message such as the following:

Safari can’t open the page.
Safari could not open the page “http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/classic/Edit” because the server stopped responding." (incidently I note it is trying to load the edit page for a new entry not update the numbered article I was editing)

This problem does not extend to loading conversation forums or posting to them successfully only to maintaing articles.

I have no such connectivity issues if I access the same articles from a windows pc elsewhere in my house so why just the imac? Essentially what I am trynig to figure out is: is this my problem or h2g2s?

Thought you had sorted out this problem as beeing a local network glitch (have you reset the router ?). "

I thought I'd fixed it, but everything I've tried including disk scans and reseting netoworks, updatign software etc has failed.

I even tried switchign browsers just in case, and firefox returned a 400 error about sending information it didn;t understand. smiley - erm

and the irritating thing it only appears to be a) my machine (other mac users and pc users are havnig no reported problems) and b.) extends no further than updating articles on h2g2, forums load just fine as does the rest of the internet. Which is a pity, as the one thign I want to do right now is edit some articles. smiley - headhurts

That could be because the retry/refresh has lost the semi-secret page information.

I haven't noticed h2g2 being extraordinarily slow lately. It used to fail to finish loading/displaying pages a lot though (which sometimes caused some strange effects on-screen).

When trying to update, does the size of an article matter at all? There's been another intermittent bug, experienced by many people, for years, along those lines. Except that one would normally prevent you posting large forum posts too.

A19285770 <--- being the article in question, but I had the same problem when I tried editing and 'previewing' my personal space. I've not experimented with a blank Guide Entry - I'll try it now but I suspect the result will be the same a 20 minute delay and then a time out error.

Well try adding to it a bit at a time and see if it stops working at some point. It may be hard, unless you employ another computer+browser combination, to retreat to a smaller size and find out whether it then works again.

I tried just that and didn't encoutner a problem - the entire page eventually loaded successfully.

So i tried the same thing with the original article - and lo! and behold- it loaded too.

Now I'm really confused - what was it that changed that made this not work in the first place and what was it that put it right? smiley - erm

Again with the not-updating of articles. smiley - cry

I'm not feeling well today so haven't the heart to sit down and preview my articles a sentence at a time again. If this is a bug can it pelased be fixed? smiley - grovel

You can binary chop to narrow the problem location down faster.

Was that really in GuideML or HTML on a normal browser though?

Had friend log in as me and process the article instead.
Typically it worked for her. Bug*ered if I can figure out why it went through fine for her but the same article won't load for me.

Irritating ain't the word... smiley - cross
