Just tell them what your original account number is.. Your Tag name and explain the problem. It is possible you might have been away too long and the account might have been lost in the downtime shuffles.

If you are using the same email address as when you first registered, that will be a help too smiley - biggrin

The Italics at the email address..

h2g2.support AT bbc.co.uk

Obviously using the @ and no spaces. This is to some anyone spamming the address.

FYI, it's perfectly okay to post email addresses in threads. I'm told by someone who knows about these things that it's because this isn't a web page that can be crawled by spambots - conversations only exist as threads in the h2g2 database until they're called up to be viewed as you (or indeed, I) am doing now.

And Aaron, you'll need to let the Editors know as much info as you can, especially the email address you used when you registered. If the account was created before the BBC went all Single Sign On, it's probably too late to revive it because all pre-SSO accounts had to be converted within a specific time.

You've been misinformed. There's absolutely nothing to stop a spambot crawling thread pages. Just because the pages are dynamic doesn't make them immune from being crawled. All a crawler does is request the pages, in exactly the same way that a browser does. Although we do mark all thread pages as not to be indexed, a spambot is likely to ignore that request and fetch them anyway.

So please be careful. Anywhere that can be read by a web browser can be read by a spambot, because it's exactly the same thing.

How very interesting and enlightening. I'll make sure that the Guru who told me that is suitably, er, updated smiley - winkeye
