It's much better this early evening (or is it late afternoon?)So I hope things are back to normal at last.

It's not been much better at any point for me either. I was up till 3am BST last night and tried again before 9am this morning. If there was ever a good patch I missed it. It hasn't been crashing but it's still dead slow on loading even trivial pages.

This time I tried until after 5am BST. There are only 42 people actually logged in and the site is still horrendously slow. Where is this phantom loading coming from?

Still slow to load pages. Especially when uploading a posting.
I am now in the habit of making copies before posting because one can never tell if it will click in after the first couple of seconds or tell you that it can't be found or worse, ask you to log on or register before posting. .
Very frustrating. Sometimes the feeling that it's all more trouble than it's worth becomes sufficiently discouraging to cause me to abandon the effort. Naturally one wonders if it's 'personal'.

I reached the stage of making copies of nearly everything ages ago. I've also given up at times (except I'm reluctant to do so completely under the current circumstances). I could take it personally but I don't think they are that subtle.
I can't help thinking there's a location basis to it though and that I'm on the route of whomever/whatever is causing the new problem.

Well I am finding it very frustrating
and I am comeing on here less and less, which is vary sad for me as I think H2G2 is the best site I have ever found ( if only it worked )
I am even spending more time with my wife

It suddenly started working normally again at about 10:05 BST but had died again by 10:20. There is no way that is a load of normal people suddenly logging off (stopping using h2g2) and then logging in (starting up) again simultaneously.
Unless there's a military academy of them somewhere taking synchronised coffee breaks!

There were several reports of a 'white out' at one point 1am bst. No server errors etc - just a white screen.

SomeMuppet Posted May 16, 2003
Yeah I got a white out at 11:55pm BST last night, so I gave up and went to bed.

A white screen eh?
I've been getting a flash of 'grey' as pages load. I use the 'frames' setting in alabaster and sometimes each frame in turn will flash as solid grey before deciding to load up or stay blank (white). It's as if something else is trying to load up and for a split second it's there and then it's gone. So sometimes I get just the 'postings' (on the right hand side) nor sometimes just the 'list of posters' (on the left). All the h2g2 buttons and graphics and everything else usually load first, and unlike past difficulties they are usually always all there, eventually. It's the data that fills the rest of the page that takes forever and after a flash of grey may or not appear.
Yes very frustrating.
peace
