It's rather unpleasantly like being drunk.

What's so unpleasant about being drunk? (Arthur)

(Ford) Ask a glass of water.

In fact, I love that whole rematerialization sequence, including the question 'How do you feel?' answered by 'Like a military academy. Bits of me keep passing out.' 'Well, don't worry - you're safe now.' 'Oh, good. This must be a new definition of the word safe that I wasn't previously aware of.'

It's one of the tightest comedic sequences in the whole series.
