Music - Collaborative Composition Project
Created | Updated Sep 6, 2003
There were a lot of musicians on h2g2 with nowhere to go. Rather than dispose of those researchers, this page is intended to solve the other end of the problem. The idea is to collaborate on composing some music. Due to site restrictions on graphics, this first attempt will use an extended version of RTX or RTTTL (mobile phone ring tone) format to specify notes.
In this format the first number is the note duration division as used in time signatures (1 = semibreve, 2 = minim, 4 = crotchet, 8 = quaver etc). Add a dot . for a dotted note. Then comes the note name: C D E F G A B or P for a pause/rest (capitals preferred). There may be a sharp # or a flat b (unlike in real RTX). Finally the octave is specified. The original format puts A5 at 440Hz. So middle C is C5 at approx 256 Hz, C6 is in the treble clef and C4 is in the bass clef. Normally notes are separated by commas but spaces and bar-lines | are probably more helpful here.
