Some of us are involved in youth politics, or campaigning for gay rights, or know all about organic food. If you want to talk about any of these things or anything that's similar then this is the place to be. Argue and rant and question to your heart's content!

Just a question, is anyone else here involved in the Make Poverty History or One campaigns at all?

If not, you should really check out the websites, it is obviously a great cause and a great injustice that many people simply don't have access to food, water, education, jobs, medicine, and things that all of us take for granted. it is vitally important that young people add their voice to the millions asking the worlds leaders and governments to end extreme, stupid poverty now.

Go to the international website, http://www.whiteband.org , and follow the links to your countries site.

Or, if you have any questions, I can probably answer them for you!

Well, let's see .. I'm sure I can think of something. Here in the States there's a bill in the House of Representatives that could severely limit people being able to legally immigrate to the country and find work here. Where I live in San Diego, this would have a major impact as we have so many immigrants coming from Mexico (and from Asia). Loads of kids have been staging protests - in some schools, kids have even ditched class to go to rallies and show their opposition to the bill.

Any thoughts on the matter?

Maybe I'm just being naive, but I'm not entirely sure what all the fuss with immigrants is about? What's wrong with people coming into the country? Not everyone is a terrorist; some people just want to provide for their families.

You know the TV show Jeopardy? It's like that, except with kids and in teams. You answer trivia questions about English, math, science, history, music, art, foreign languages, current events and stuff like that. More details here: A3881379

Adults never think we can comprehend things. Just because we have not gone to collage yet does not mean that we can’t have an opinion on things. Or if we do it is wrong or that we just are saying something we heard somewhere. Sometimes my dad and me get caught up in conversation before he realizes who he is talking to and I know in his mind he dismisses the idea that I know what we are talking about which is usually politics. And other times when me ad my friends are talking we realize that if adults somehow heard what we were talking about they would be amazed. When I get older I will never underestimate the ideas of a kid. You see I used ideas instead of IQ or anything like that. That is because the educational systems way of grading how smart someone is extremely flawed. I am not saying I have a better way it is impossible to perfectly grade them unless you have incite into there mind. I have ok grades A’s B’s and some C’s yet if you ask anyone I know they will tell you I am pretty smart and in some areas very smart.

It never ceases to amaze me how far the rift stretches between the adult world and the kid world.

YRC: The World

Post 17

Actually I think the rift is getting smaller because of kids getting smaller and smaller. This also gives us more insight into the world early on so we realize there is a rift so it seems bigger.
On an interiorly different note I have an article in the post.

I know. I was the one what edited it.smiley - winkeye

It seems like there is still a big barrier between kids and adults, though. At my school recently some kids did a senior prank, which was blown way out of proportion by the school district and the press. Now some people are calling the kids terrorists and stuff like that, while kids at school are trying to 'get back' at the adults and cause more problems. I think this goes to show you how little each group understands the other.

I never said the gap is small. Just getting smaller.

In other cases, the kids have no idea what they're talking about. I have a headstrong friend who calls herself a democrat. I doubt she even knows what that means. Maybe it's because she dislikes Bush, because of the war, but at least he gets things done. I personally like a man of action, but one that doesn't make rash decisions. Bush isn't the best president and I can say that I am looking forward to the 2008 elections, but it is possible for him to do some good.

For example, Americans lose $8 billion a year, because of screwed up law suits against doctors. Taxes go up, doctors are forced to practice defensive medicine, prices are driven up. Bush is passing a law to help prevent those goat crap lawsuits, so smiley - ok to Bush.
