Kat - From H2G2

This thread is the place to talk about anything you feel a need to talk about in your life. It's the place for advice, complaining, crying, and pondering.

Relationship problems?
Nasty parents?
Finding everything getting on top of you?
Had a huge argument with your best friend?
Think you might be gay but you've got Catholic parents?
Can't face going outside because you've got a huge spot on your nose?

This is the place to talk about all of these things and anything else you need to. We are here to help, listen, and dole of lots of smiley - hug and smiley - choc

Kat

Indeed! Although obviously nobody seems to have anything to complain about so you could complain about all your problems if you wish smiley - winkeye

I feel that I need to say quickly, for future reference....

ANYONE who feels that they need to talk to someone in confidentiality about any problems at all, please take a look at A6251852. It contains a list of helplines, emails, and websites to look at. It will be being added to shortly to include links for the USA as well as Britain.

Thank you

Kat

If anyone wants to buy a caramel chocolate bar, I'm selling them for $1.00 each!smiley - winkeye

I actually am, too - to benefit my school quizbowl team. The money from the chocolate sale goes to our food expenses at the national championships in Chicago. My coach has this theory that we shouldn't have to pay for any of the expenses ourselves, which is totally cool by me!smiley - biggrin

I theoretically have to study for my AP European History test now, but that's probably not going to happen any time soon, as I've still got a fair bit of backlog to get through. I love the course, but I hate the tests!

Ooh, Kat, that page is amazing! I've told you about my being a Listener, haven't I? Do you mind if I sort of, appropriate it as a resource? *extra-sweet pleading smiley smiley - smileysmiley - angel*

What's a Listener, Joe?

It's our in-school equivalent to Samaritans. People who need someone to talk to, can either come and find one of us, or (more usually) go and see the teacher who runs it, who then refers them on to whichever of us he thinks is most appropriate. smiley - smiley

Of course you can Joe! It's there to be used after all!

Cool, I wish we had that at my school. The school counsellors are the only people to talk to here, and of course they're absolutely no help.

Set one up! We have people coming in from the county's "Youth Service" once a week, I actually feel quite sorry for them, because they set up all their stuff in the Sixth Form centre and then nobody goes along at all. We get quite a few people seeing Listeners though, and it's a real lifeline for some people - it has been for me in the past, as well. smiley - smiley

These things don't just start themselves though; if you think you could get some other people interested, you should go for it smiley - biggrin

I would if I had the time! If someone else was organising it I'd probably help out, but I just have too many things to do.

Well, you could poke someone else until they organise it then smiley - tongueout

For a life thread, there's worryingly little activity smiley - smiley

How's everyone's lives getting on?

My life says hi to your life, Joe.smiley - smiley

My life is plodding on as ever. I got a horrible grade on a history paper which was somewhat tempered by a good grade on an English paper, but not really, because I'm teetering on the A-/B+ edge in history and the last thing I need is a bad paper.

Tryouts for school quizbowl are starting, though, which is very exciting. I am determined to make the top-level team this year.

What's everyone else up to?

The English equivalent to quizbowl - the Schools' Challenge - is underway, and there are five of us competing for four places on the team smiley - tongueout Three people have done it before in previous years, and know how it works and everything, so it's between me and one other person for the last place. I took part in the first round (someone was away so I filled in) and now I want to stay in the team, I loved it! smiley - biggrin

I'm starting to think about university applications too. I won't be applying until the end of 2006, but I want to have an idea of where I want to go.

I finally finished my English coursework at 3am last night! Actually, I tell a lie, I finished most of it by then, and then actually wrote the last sentence at 10.30am today, the day it was due in. Hopefully they won't be able to tell smiley - smiley

Last-minuting and bullshitting everything is so much a part of my life by now that I forget that it's generally frowned upon.

Good luck in getting that spot!

Orange, some of your compatriots are visiting my school this week - we've got a band of exchange students from Sydney. They all seem relatively nice and one of my friends has one staying with her.
