A Little Bit about Distributed Proofreaders
Distributed Proofreaders (DP) is a project to have members of the general public proofread etexts for placement in the Project Gutenberg (PG)1 archive. All of these etexts are OCR scans of books that are no longer under copyright.
To date DP has submitted over 1700 etexts to the PG Archive, with nearly 700 of those being added in the last 5 months.
Distributed Proofreading allows people to proofread one page of text at a time, through their web browser. The theory is that if 600 people proofread one page per day, each day a 300 page book can be proofread twice and soon after added to PG.
Access to DP is open to everyone and there are books needing proofreading in a number of different languages.
The H2G2 Researcher Team was started on February 27th, 2003.
