Gnomon - time to move on

One thing I didn't put into the Stonehenge Entry, for fear of being lynched, is my own impression of it: It's Really Small! Every person I know said the same thing.

I agree Gnomon. "Is that it?" must be the most frequently asked question in the vicinity of the stones.

Still interesting though, because although we think they're small compared to what we can easily shift around now some considerable effort went in to putting them there. And they are old.

In millenia to come someone will uncover our landfill sites and wonder if we were hoarding plastic bags for some reason smiley - smiley

"Is that it?"

"It's Really Small!"

I went to the Gateway Arch in St. Louis once.
I went up in it to the top.
On one side was the city, on the other the river, neither spectacular. The only noteworthy landmark around was the thing I were standing in.

An article in a BBC site said that the arch spanned the Mississippi.
A recent 25 cent coin issued with the arch on it seems to show it spanning the river, also.

"Is that it?"
"It's Really Small!"
And nobody's really sure what it does. There is no on switch.

I really don't think Stonehenge is a mystery. It is a way of talking to the gods.
