Hi there
Erm...I thought that the goddess that Ra spread bear over the desert in order to prevent the killing of any more humans was Sekhmet, the lion-headed goddess, and when she came back she was gentled and 'became' Bast?
That is the story that I have seen/heard of most of all, in this country as well as whilst travelling through Egypt.

Hathornefer (ACE) Near miss - isnt that what you'd call a hit Posted Mar 20, 2003
Hi Leopardskinfynn
I am not sure that we are not both correct. To my knowledge Sekhmet was laterly identified with forms of Hathor. Both were foreign goddesses although Sekhmet was represented with darkness or the moon disk while Hathor was represented with the sun disk.
In truth I have not come accross one good reference book that I can call a definitive guide to who did what. My knowledge is cobbled together from a number of sources. From what I am able to gleen most gods and goddesses there havea number of stories and a number of linkings to other gods with whom they were'identified with'.
If you can give me any references on this I would be TRULY greatful Leopardskinfynn. It may help me pull apart any overlap and add more clarrity to the entry. I guess it doesnt help that my interest is only superficial either

PS This is why I have avoided submitting the entry for peer review or writing more it is just SO complicated. Comments are welcome though
