Here in America it's known as duct tape, but it seems to mysteriously disappear when needed just as often in America.

If you're from Canada or you have a decent American PBS station, and you love gaffer/duct tape, you need to watch past episodes of 'The Red Green Show. (Alas, the show has run its course, and no new episodes will be taped.) Red Green (the principal character) creates amazing and bizarre gadgets with his duct tape.

My husband loves this show, and we have a clipping from a local newspaper hanging in the kitchen:

Duct tape is like The Force:

It has a light side, and a dark side, and it holds the universe together!

I think you wrapped it up quite succinctly. Alas for Red Green, but don't fret: he'll be around in syndication for decades to come.

You know what they say, "If you can't fix it with Gaffer Tape then you haven't used enough."
