I'm actually trying to make some semi-serious entries now, so I'm wondering if this is any good, or if I should try something completely different.

Not a bad entry Mich smiley - ok A few suggestions to make it even better:

Avacado --> avocado

"guacamole is a Mexican dish found on tacos, burritos, tortilla chips"
Well, it's usually found *in* a dish, but you can *put* it on all of those food items.

"once you have tasted it, you cannot put it down"
I'm really not too keen on it, and I can put it down very easily. The h2g2 writing guidelines suggest not putting judgemental statements like that into an entry being submitted for editing.

By 'dried chili', do you mean chili powder or the dried chilis you can buy in many stores?

Why a stainless steel or glass bowl?

Avocado flesh oxidises and discolours at the drop of a hat, so it's very important to cover your guacamole if you're not going to use it immediately. I must admit that I've never heard of leaving in the seed to keep it fresh and neither has my wife, whose mother is full Mexican smiley - erm Sounds like a great idea if it works though smiley - smiley

I've done some editing. Oh, and my family has always been told to put the seed in the mix, and it works, too.

I would put the recipie at the bottom. Inform first, then frill it up. The sentence "a fix mixture" is odd. Try working that bump out.

The Variations are sort of part of the recipe, since they say some little extra things you can put in it.

I changed "fix" for perfect: "A perfect mixture of avacados and some othere tasty ingredients,"

You might want to add that it is particularly worth making your own guacamole, as it is very difficult to get decent ready made guacamole from your average supermarket. (At least in Europe). It really benefits from being fresh.

Do you really mean 1/4 to 1/2 a cup of dried chillis?

Ok, so I'm British and not totally familiar with US weights and measures, but that quantity seems like a heck of a lot in comaprison to the quantity of avocado going into the mix.

Following on from what Grey Desk said, it would be a good idea to put some metric weight equivalents into the recipe, very few europeans will have any idea what a cup is, other than a thing to drink smiley - tea out of smiley - biggrin

Should anyone mention that in Nahautl, the language of the Aztecs who gave us guacamole, "mole" means "sauce" and "guaca" means "testicle"? Oh, no! I just mentioned it!

an avocado has a certain resemblence to the item in question. As I remember it, the word for avocado was guaca as well. So, if somebody made particularly bad guaca sauce, he could get a kick in the guacas.

as you will see, the actual Nahuatl words were not Guaca and Mole; those are Spanish corruptions. But the original words did, in fact, mean "testicle sauce".

I like it - a nice quick in-and-out entry that does what it says on the tin.

I'm not thrilled with the title though - perhaps just Guacamole

Also, you might want to mention that even the dried power mix you can get at the grocery is a nice quick way to make guacamole - just add avocadoes.
