Is the old policy around somewhere to read and compare? I would not know the differences in policy, having been here steadily a few short months.

There has been no change in policy...anyone can create a guide entry on any subject so long as it follows the house rules.
If an entry is submitted to peer review for entry in the Editied Guide - the official "encyclopedia" section of the guide - it is expected to follow the writing guidelines which include a ban on first person references (so that edited entries can be updated by other researchers if the entry becomes out of date) and that entries be balanced.

I think Abbi and Pencil Queen are probably already aware of the debates going on about creating a parallel guide - currently being referred to as the Underguide.
A good starting point for these conversations is here: A943670
There is also an MSN group discussing the subject here: http://groups.msn.com/TheH2G2Underguide
Come on over and join the debates. Unfortunately they are scatterd all over the place. We need to make a list of the threads, really.
