Hmmm... If a researcher is still around, and hasn't actively consented to sending it to the FM, then I'm generally happier sending the thread back to the entry.

My experience has been that if a researcher is still around but has abandoned an entry in PR, it's often because they've had a negative experience in PR. I think taking the entry and putting it in the FM and letting someone else take it over is all technically by the books (even if you're active on h2g2, someone else can use your material without your permission, as long as they give you credit for it -- it's that whole waiving copyright thing), but bound to exacerbate the situation if someone is already feeling less than warm and fuzzy about PR -- "What? Someone took my entry and did what to it?"

I just don't feel like the potential benefit outweighs the potential hurt.

I know that there are others who definitely disagree, though, and feel that if an author isn't responding, they've "forfeited all rights" to the entry.
