A Conversation for The Even Deeper Meaning Of Liff - The Saga Continues...

Upton – A beautiful little town (apparently the smallest in Britain, don’t quote me on that one though) on the Severn in Worcestershire. Consists of mainly pubs, thought to be inbred (past the first generation), loved by tourists. The locals are laid back and generally alcoholics, your pub landlord knows the ins & outs of everything in the town. What people don’t know, they make up! The sort of place that once you’ve been there long enough you can’t wait to leave, once you leave, you miss it like mad. Kind of infectious. The place to be brought up in, leave and eventually retire to! Well, I can’t think of any Liff’s for this one but it would make me proud to see it on this site!

Malvern – The sense of pride that someone has for something that doesn’t deserve it.

Cheltenham – A townie who gets away with it & looks good with it too. Liked by those who dislike townies.

Worcester – Townies who can’t get away with it. Liked by few.

Strenny – The obligatory part time job that school leavers get after GCSE’s and carry through whilst a 6th form. This job is also returned to on breaks from university. The shifts are 8 hours long, at stupid times of the day & the minimum wage is the most ever paid. It is the sort of job that is better done on a hangover or still slightly under the influence and you don’t feel guilty about calling in sick.

Ryall – The house where you have the parties, there’s nothing else there but it is ‘on the way’.

Warndon or Tolladine - Teenage mother with hoop earrings, bleached hair and living off benefits in a shoe box with a satellite dish on the side. (hope this doesn't offend residents of these two places, it is a joke)

If you don't know these place names, I hope this gives you insight into what they're like and are helpful in explaining everyday things that we don't have names for! Any adaptions are welcome.
