A Conversation for Islam and Women
a confusion

Hi Muzakboy!
I appreciate your effort to establish the truth about Islam and what it says about women but I have some confusion as which Hindu scripture are you referring to, which says woman should be kept in subjection? As for as I know being a Hindu woman myself, all the Hindu scriptures like Vedas and Upanishads give women status of God. You may want to visit this site which sheds some light on women in Hinduism. http://www.geocities.com/dipalsarvesh/vedicWoman.html
As per my knowledge it is not true that Hindu woman were kept in subjection in Vedik period or afterwards. On the contrary, Hindu women had to confine herself in her house and started putting veils after India was invaded by Muslim invaders. Foreign invaders came to India looted, abducted women and raped them.
I am not suggesting that Hindu woman were never mistreated by Hindus themselves. Whatever social evils were/are there, are not supported by any Hindu scripture. No Hindu scholar can justify them on the basis of Hindu scriptures. Great people like Raja Rammohan Roy worked throughout to eradicate Sati system etc.
As for as Muslim women are concerned I have no doubt about their capabilities and their faith in their religion. In India I see them in all walks of life. They are Doctor, Engineer, film actresses, models, even Supreme Court Judge. I hardly see them putting veil or scarf in India. They ware what they like, they do what they please. (it is generally true for all educated, economically middle class or higher Indians. Unfortunately 25% of Indian population is poor and uneducated and they have other issues to deal with as well.)
In Britain I see them putting scarf to cover their head but that doesn't bother me as I understand it is entirely their choice as Hindu women put Bindi or Sindur on their forehead.( I am friend with some Muslim women in UK and India and I hope I understand them )
Hope I am not offending you

Namaste (I think thats the Hindu greeting).
Sorry I have not got back to you sooner, I was unaware of this message sorry, it did not appear on my actual home page on this site.
Of course I am not offended, why should I be, If I am at fault then thats no ones fault but mine. I am sorry if that statement is incorrect, it is just when writing this article I asked several people about there faiths.
I spoke to a Hindu man about the subject of Women in the Hindu faith, but I did not actually check up what he was saying.
I have taken a look at the internet site you indicated and read it.
I feel I am at a stalemate on the subject as on the one side I have the words of a Hindu man and on the other a site about Hinduism and Women.
Is there any more sites on Hinduism and women which have more information for me to look at?
As for the moment I will remove that section of my article as I'm not sure of its truthfullness.
As for offence, It is me who should be apologising to you if I am at error about your faith.
It shows that I am ignorant of your Faith for that I apologise.

Hi Adib (Salamalikum)
Nice to hear from you Good to see your interest in knowing about other religions and culture. Yes there are many sites on Hinduism but none gives a complete picture. Though www.hindunet.org seems exhaustive (I have not visited all sections) I go to these sites to pick up some nice story to tell my Son. They have a section on Hindu women as well. They have biographies of many famous women.
Hindu women have been mistreated and are being mistreated by their male counterparts widely but that is not supported by scriptures. But things are changing and education is making people more aware which is a good sign!
How's your work going on? Hope to see more entries from you

Hi,
Thanks for the link, I will check it out.
yeah I do my best to learn about all cultures and beliefs as that way you get a better perspective of the world, well thats what I find anyway.
I am writing some more entries, but am concentrating on my older ones, and up dating them where they need it.
I'm also concentrating on finding a better job so I can get married eventually.
As for the men thing, yeah I know what your saying, and a member of the male sex I would just like to apologise on behalf of all the male idots out there who think there better than women and do not realise we are all equal.
Are you going to write any entries on Hinduism (sorry my spelling is appaling) or is your son keeping all your time.
So how old is your son if you do not mind me asking?
Take care,
Adib

Hi Adib,
Thanks for your msg. Oh you need not apologise for wrong doings of others. You are knowledgeable about the fact that we all are equal as human being is important and you are doing a noble job of making others aware of it, is great!
I am not working on any entry at the moment. You guessed it, my son keeps me very busy. He is 14 months old first of all I need to work on my introduction. I don't think I'm qualified to work on an entry on Hinduism. I haven't read all the scriptures. (Hopefully one day I will)
I did start an entry on crafts but stopped it in middle. (Lack of motivation I guess)
Goodluck for your job hunt

Hi,
thanks I am sure I will get a good job soon, just at the moment I am working at toys R us is birmingham which is to be blunt rather dull.
But then again work is work and it would not be work if it was fun.
your son is 14 months then I guess that means he is still at the cute age joke.
I don't think you need to be qualified to write a entry on Hinduism, you can just write about what you know about Hinduism from the scriptures that you have read.
If some one asks about some thing you don't know you just say so, I do that a lot when talking about Islam.
Its not so bad on her as most people just ask simple things and not tricky questions.
You could say I'm not qualified to talk about Islam, as I may have read the Quran and know the sharia law but I have not read all of the Hadith.
I think what it comes down to is that if you have faith in your religion and you do not a lot about it then you are qualified.
I hope that makes sense.
Oh and I know what its like to loose motivation, its happened to me on a palestinian entry I am/was writing.
take care.
Adib
