I think this is really good - people are very caught up in "seeing is believing" and don't seem to realise how often our eyes play tricks on us.

If anything I seem to be arguing that our eyes *don't* play tricks on us. All the tricks are played by ourselves on ourselves . . . though rainbows do look as if they're put there to give us a jolt and make us think.
