Amfoot Trivia Question 0064

JD

Since you all like multipart questions, here goes ...

A certain defensive unit had a 'scary' nickname - one of the guys in that group coined the term "sack" for tackling the quarterback. First one to give the nickname for the bunch, the name of the guy who coined the term "sack" and at least one other man from that group gets the pint and the point. (Bonus: If you're really good and need to show it off, name all xx of them. smiley - winkeye)

The 'scary' group would have to be the Fearsome Foursome. I think Deacon Jones was one, so if he wasn't the sack-meister, count me out of this one.

And since I just re-read the question and now understand that I've failed to answer it completely, I'll just have to come to grips with the fact that I've probably given away 2/3rds of the answer.

Ah yes, you are indeed going to have to come to grips with that Blathers, since you are indeed 2/3 correct. I knew this might be a bit easy so I made it harder by asking for another member of the Fearsome Foursome. If people ask for one, I can drop a hint on the last part.

Bright Blue Shorts

Merlin Olsen was another member of the Fearsome Foursome.

TBH - I would have gone for them as they have a 'scary' nickname (Fearsome) but I could only think of Olsen. Fortunately Blathers has provided me with Deacon Jones smiley - smiley I've been caught on the multi-parters too many times now to be giving away info ...

OK, now BBS has the smiley - ale and the point. Yeah, I remember Deacon Jones from when my Dad watched the Rams play all the time in LA. Too bad they never had the chance to get a ring, but they were pretty fearsome. Jones coined that term 'cos he likened the quarterback tackle to "sacking a city." Bet that made a few GBs go smiley - yikes
