Well, I definitely like the opening quote a lot! The scavenger following Theseus' boat is also my favourite bit.

When you talk about people, and replacing our parts, is it worth mentioning that this happens naturally anyway, and that after 7 years, or whatever, we're supposed to have replaced every cell?

I'm also reminded of electrons, and other particles, being completely identical, and there being no difference between an atom with one electron or another.

The "thing in itself" must lie somewhere other than in the matter that makes it up! Search for long enough, and you'll know why jaded ex-philosophy students would cheerfully don t-shirts bearing the motto: "F**k the thing in itself!" I've been meaning to go into business selling those, but my philosophy education didn't prepare me for sales...

For no special reason I am minded of two works of Literature (?).

First : a play that I had a little to do with in a student , in-house production as an exercise -- *Bits and Pieces * where the *hero* has had every part of his body ( with one important exception ) used for transplants , and

Second , the famous tale of * The Wonderful One-hoss Shay*

All very irrelevant
