Sounds ingenious Abbi!
Do you mean at the base of the skull between the two tendons, but putting the pressure more to one side or other?
How wonderful that you are getting some relief

That will work Kea
I am suppressing the area where the cord comes out at the base.
I have used a tennis ball previously for the muscles and tendons in my forearms and ankles - knees.
My ligaments in my neck have been calcified for sometime
The squash ball sounds better for some things, not this particular X spot.
I have a hackysac somewhere - that sounds close also.
Do you know what they are Terri?
I bet it would help with massage and some pressure points so I will check that out too. I have used various therapy balls for hands which sound similar, in other spots on my neck and back.

Kea I just put the golf ball in the middle.
I would not suggest that to others without checking first with your professional.
To do the tendons on each side does work well with a softer ball, more like a tennis one - perhaps squash too! That helped.

Thanks Abbi, that sounds like useful information. I hear you about the need to check with a doctor too

I've got a miniature rugby ball thing, about 3" long that somebody gave me, supposed to be used for anti stress squeezing, but also to strengthen hand & wrist mucles. Would that be of any help? Apparently the oval shape is better suited to the shape of the hand than a round ball.
If you think it would be useful, let me know & soon as i have cash for posting i will send it you (gawd knows what to put on Customs declaration; "toy" maybe?)

I have several types of the hand ones.
Don't want you spending to send me anything Terri but thank-you for the thought.
I can get any kind here.
This area is very physically active and international in their sports.
The golf one is the only one that works for me on the upper spinal cord.
The others are great for many areas.
I like them on hands, feet and legs, helps circulation.
Seems to be a lot of people around with bad necks and backs.

Does massage help? I am a firm believer in reflexology (foot massage corresponding to bad bits in other parts of the body) i am normally very sceptical of such stuff but this really does seem to work.
It would be very difficult for me to have it now 'cos the sensations in my feet are so completely jumbled it might do more harm than good, even assuming i could find someone sensitive enough to even try, but, just gave viking a foot massage & i could *feel* areas of tension & once those bits stopped crunching & crackling, he relaxed enough to actually decide to go to bed (unheard of normally before about 5am)
It may of course simply have been a case of "wow, somebody cares about me enough to rub my feet, i am safe, i am content, i can relax"
I am in no way experienced in which bits correspond to what, but once had a professional refexology massage & she accurately told me health problems which she couldn't possibly have known, & temporarily cleared a sinus infection so i could fly back next day without being in agony on the plane....i was impressed!

Terri, you can reflexology on your hands instead of your feet. Would that be easier?
Foot massages are pretty amazing reflexology or not. Hand massages are pretty nice too

I bet there are a number of comfort therapies that would help you Terri. The problem is money. UNless the Frnech pay for alternative therapy consultants.
I would get a mild massage weekly if I could.
It would be heaven.
