This week's title is Sublime and Ridiculous. Clockwise from upper left: The baldachin at St Peter's, part of the facade of the Chapel of Bones in Faro, Portugal, a black-brown-and-white duck on a lake, TJ the orange kitty and Molly the grey-and-white kitty together on a bed, an old Blockbuster being repurposes as a furniture store, a brown dog sleeping on his mat with a smug-looking grey-striped cat beside him, the backside of an upended duck in a lake, a wooden park bench with a large carved fish at one end, and a brindled cat looking at the camera from inside a bathroom sink.

What's the weather like where you are? Outside the Post Office, it is again a sea of white. We drip the faucets at night to keep them from freezing and breaking. We are mad at the Groundhog – and in spite of the fact that there are probably at least a million whistlepigs in North America, that one gets a capital G and all our ire. Don't anybody start whistling 'Sleigh Ride'.

Other people have drought. Or too much rain. Or heat. Or earthquakes and volcanos.

But we all have birds. So you get to look at our birds this week, like most weeks.

Culturally, we also have a variety of things which make us scratch our heads. Chapels made of bones. A council that appreciates Art, even when it takes the form of a carved wooden bench with a giant fish on it. Or repurposed Blockbusters or signs in water. You get to see these things and scratch your head, too.

We have philosophical thoughts. And poetic impulses. And satirical, fictional fantasies. And the urge to draw funny pictures. You get to experience those in all their rough glory. And then Awix tells us about movies that simply cannot exist, and yet somehow do.

And finally, the one thing almost all of us can agree on: we have cats. Cats in sinks. Cats on beds. Cats sharing space with dogs, who should be grateful. Cats having snarky thoughts and waiting for you, the cat-mind reader, to interpret them.

So enjoy, friends. Next week, there will be more madness, so enjoy this one's while you grab a snack and a drink and hide from whatever your weather and/or geology is doing to you.

Have a good week out there, and watch out for insane politicians and falling rocks.

Every time you catch a fish, at least one other fish in the lake thinks they just witnessed an alien abduction.
