We had the leader of the Socialist Party, Emile Roemer, who used the Adele song 'Rumour has it' (Dutch 'Roemer' and English 'Rumour' sound about the same)

I think it was "I'm just *mild* about harry" for Harry Truman. It was not supposed to be a compliment. Or maybe supporters and detractors used the song with the different words. The original song was written for the musical "Shuffle along" by Eubie Bake, who enjoyed a resurgence in his late 90s. It helped that ragtime (his forte) was also getting popular again.
Funny you should mention William Henry Harrison. My family tree has very few stellar members, but one ancestor was a first cousin of Benjamin Harrison. Harrison was so unimpressive that the man he defeated (Grover Cleveland) came back and defeated him. I hope a certain former president doesn't come back into office this year.

Me, too, Paul. I suspect people used that Harry Truman song different ways. His indefatigable whistlestop touring put him over the top - also the fact that there were too many candidates. Personally, I like Truman, even when I don't agree with everything he did. But he has given me problems when writing for schools - he cussed. A LOT.
That's interesting about your ancestry and Harrison. Benjamin did the first 'front porch campaign', as I recall.
