Don't know if it is still valid with the current inflation. I've got pretty big hands. (come to think of it, that doesn't make a difference. Bigger hands hold more yen as well. I'll need to throw some maths at that to see what sticks.)

My hand span from thumb to little finger (I think ?) is 9 ins (can't find me ruler to verify

My ruler is metric only, but converting 23cm yields a pretty accurate 9 inches for me.

My wrist line to middle finger tip measurement is 20cm, so I regularly use my hands as rulers for multiples of 20cm.
