The wise thing for Ben would be to just keep the nice new big pH regulated aquarium and put no fish in it. Just in case a new goldfish will land on his lawn. If I remember correctly, goldfish tend to get bigger the more room they have, so a bigger bowl will not always lead to more space to move aound.

When I was a teenager the local Woolworth's had a pet department. They had a giant goldfish called 'Jumbo', sort of a mascot. I felt sorry for it because its tank was too small.
I may be wrong, but I think it's a case of a golden orfe getting in with the goldfish.
