Mathematicians would discard this story as statistically insignificant. (they would say the average temperature is fine standing in a bucket of ice with one foot and in a volcano with the other, so you shouldn't always take mathematicians too seriously)

Statisticians might, but I’m a mathematician who did a lot of work in 4 and 5 dimensions (and multiples thereof) 
during my PhD - intriguing possibilities in this story indeed
