My commentary on Mediterranean superstition is based on living in Greece for five years. That ceramic garlic bulb? My boss had one in every room in the school. Evil-eye charms everywhere. We had our fortunes told in coffee cups. (Pretty much the opposite of Germany.)

Wow! I've never heard about that before.

If you can only be fortunate by looking at the bottom of your coffee cup I am in trouble, because I don't drink coffee.

Oh, it only works with Greek coffee.

Which is the same as Turkish coffee. But you are not allowed to say that in Greece. Just as you are not allowed to call that Turkish city anything but Constantinopoli.
