A Conversation for Deep Thought: Blanking Out the Apocalypse

I had to read all of Poe in high school

In my junior year of high school, my English teacher told each of us to read all the works of an author of our choosing. My small-town library only had the complete works of Edgar Allan Poe. After reading all that stuff, I was ready for a cask of Amontillado, though I was five years from the legal drinking age.

To be honest, Poe's life was as gruesome as much of the fiction he wrote. It's just as well that he didn't leave offspring, as he married his cousin, who died young in a horrible way.

Are we heading for the kind of world that you would encounter in a Poe story? smiley - yikes
