I love the piano music of that era, from ragtime to Debussy. When I listen to ragtime, I think about how waltz tunes could be underlaid by a syncopated accompaniment. Scott Joplin wrote some very nice waltzes, and must have realized the potential of such a nice contrast of rhythms.
