Are they slippers for cows to wear. I've heard that the flowers are supposed to resemble the lips of cows, but I've never seen a cow with yellow lips.

Tell Paul H, further to the cows-lips / cow-slips argument, there is a place on the Pembrokeshire coast (South Wales*), called either Bulls-laughter or Bull-slaughter Bay (the jury is still out on that).

*Wales is part of the United Kingdom, the large lump sticking out on the west side, opposite East Anglia on the east side of the country. Scotland is the rocky lump to the north of England. Northern Ireland is where everyone fights everyone else and most American presidents come from (surprisingly Trump was from peaceful Scotland, where everyone hates the English almost as much as the Irish but only want independence through political moves, not bombs and bullets).'

Cows' lips are edible. Cowslips are also edible, though they are more of a salad green. Bulls may well laugh if they have avoided slaughter. Trump was German on his father's side, and Scottish on his mother's side.
