So it is not Cyril the sock-puppet talking to the hand then?
I used to do that (darning, not talking to the hand) when socks still had built in structural integrity (the barbed wire ones knit by my grandmother that were thistle-resistant).
It looks like it's going to be a long night. Maybe it is better if she sews them together to create a draught excluder.
