It looks like this already happened on the left side, until the branch broke off. (That is what happened to one of the weeping willows next to the stream in my neighbourhood. The kids used the hanging creepers to swing over the water until half the tree came down.)

The conservation laws forbid us to cut down down any trees within 25 feet of the mean high water mark, unless they pose a danger to the general safety. We have several willows that are leaning toward the river, or that have fallen in. There are benefits, as turtles like to sun themselves on half-submerged tree trunks
