Mostly they demand ransom.

How much ransom are they demanding? I don't think we can afford to pay much. We aren't as rich as Elon Musk or Jeff Bezos or the Royal Family. What a fine mess we'be gotten into!

Nobody intended to PAY it, silly. But that's what a ransomware attack is. (Look it up.)
