I just checked - it probably depends on high up you are, and on which side of the mountains. Boone, NC can get up to 33 inches a winter, but Knoxville and Oak Ridge, TN get only about 6 inches.

I see I forgot to put a chimney on the cabin, but it would be cosy inside with a fire burning, even though there is quite a bit of snow outside

I remember my dad chopping some wood for one when we visited my grandparents' farm in winter. (That one's in a Quaker meetinghouse in Pennsylvania.)

In a classic Appalachian mountain cabin, the chimney should be on one end of the cabin.
