Hi

You have late summer, while we have late Winter. Do your ferns go dormant in cold weather?

Hello Paulj! Actually as far as I know, no. These forests never get so cold that the ferns need to go dormant. Everything is growing year-round! Moss, ferns, trees, shrubs, all are in leaf all the time. These are evergreen mist forests, neither cold nor drought affect the plants. In exceptionally dry years, a few of the trees might be affected, but otherwise, no.

It's a lovely photo. smiley - smiley
I don't know much about ferns, but I get the impression that in the UK, they flourish in damp places.

They grow along the back side of my house.

But they die to the ground in winter.

I associate them with forests here, and the fact that you aren't supposed to steal them from state or national parks. smiley - laugh But yes, like everything but evergreens, they die back in winter.
