Sorry I can't narrow it down further. The plants in the photo are probably not native to my area, nor related to those which are.

But I know what I know. I see anemones and geraniums in my yard every Spring.

I'm probably wrong about these, though. Just in case someone else knows he right answer.

Looks like at least 8 or 9 petals on the flowers, as compared with five or six on the species I know. I'm getting less certain.

I agree with Paulh that the leaves look like anemones. They reminded me of the wood anemones that grow wild in the UK, but the flowers of those are white.
According to wiki, there are cultivated varieties which have blue flowers. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anemonoides_nemorosa

I have some of these in my garden smiley - biggrin. They are anemones, yes - anemone blanda, or windflowers

They are absolutely gorgeous. They are taking over my back yard, and I'm happy to have them do that. They're closely related to buttercups.
