My memory for names has always been dreadful, always was, always will be. Is there a thing such as name-blind?
On the plus side, we do try learning a few phrases whenever we travel. We enjoy it, the locals seem to appreciate it, and it gets us into some weird and wonderful experiences, but most of all, just good manners.

When I was in elementary school, we had a number of Polish kids with names like Nicewicz or Kunewich or Poulin or Piecewicz or Kozinski. There were good Irish names like McCarthy or Finnerty, Russian names like Galeski, German names like Vath or Krantz or Schultz.
Fred Rogers sang to the graduating class at that other college? Nice!
