With billions of people in lockdown, is it so bad to want comedies?

I wanted to read your column through form beginning to end, but I got caught up by this: "I'll go to see just about anything (with the possible exception of modern mainstream American comedies...)"
Wouldn't you be serving the gods of balance by watching films that counter the horror show that is the nightly news, with its death counts from viruses, and hooligans attacking the government buildings of a prominent country?
I'm just sayin'.
I don't want to think about dying or getting sick because of the virus. To take my mind off it, I watch movies and TV shows from a time when people didn't scold you for being unmasked in public, and that famous WWII photo of a serviceman spontaneously kissing a girl he didnt know was celebrated, not condemned as dangerous (suppose she caught a virus?).
