A Conversation for Ships That Pass

Red ship, green rocks, and on the quayside, a pile of scrap metal.
It's the same in Newhaven, when we come into the harbour on the ferry, there's a huge pile of scrap metal. It makes me wonder how much scrap metal there is and what happens to it.

I know where your boat is:
https://www.vesselfinder.com/vessels/VITA-IMO-8906303-MMSI-304010455
I wouldn't want to meet that one up close when rowing. Depending on loading conditions, ships like that can have a blind spot of over 500 meters in front, so I always give way.
Scrap metal becomes new steel.
Contrary to plastics, with steel it is possible to remove contamination, making it much better to recycle.
Nice picture, with the red and the green horizontals.
Last summer we cycled past the river Rhine, so I have seen quite a lot of vessels. (slightly smaller tahn this one I guess)

I second that comment on scrap metal! Humans have been usefully recycling metal for thousands of years!
Boat watching = fun.

If you think boats are too slow you could always try

to look at planes instead.

Well spotted about the scrap metal, and that ship is rather large!
Boat watching = fun indeed, and it is fascinating to know what planes are passing overhead - thanks for those links Caiman raptor elk

I found the boat website when I needed to know when to expect my shipment from South America.
The plane site is useful if you want to pick some up and want more than just what is on the monitors
