Yes! I recreated the testimony from the summary in print. I believe it was the first murder trial in the county.

It kinda made me think of the court scene in "To kill a mockingbird," which was reenacted in a courtroom in Dedham (Mass.) one year when the whole town was reading the book.

I also think about the makeshift trial at the end of "Oklahoma." Justice is variable in different places and times. I enjoy seeing the different ways people work out their plans for seeing justice done. Not that I'd enjoy being put in the stocks for a day smiley - yuk.

Maybe there wasn't a lot of time for finding jurors who weren't friends of the Greens? Or maybe it didn't matter, as the jurors put aside whatever friendsips/enmities they may have had, and came up with what seemed a just verdict.

There will be some follow-up at the end. But my source seemed to think they got off easy - so did the town in general.

Death as a result of land disputes does not seem so far-fetched to me.

War is such a dispute on a large scale. Mostly, I hope land disputes are settled with less violence, or no violence at all.
